The quarter cask takes its name from the small barrels that have been used for the final part of the maturation period. This is a young version of Laphroaig but the increased contact with the oak in the barrels effetively accelerates the ageing process. It also gives the whisky an interesting tannic and oaky texture. The overall impression is that this is more chewy, tannic and a little less polished than the 10 year old. A hugely popular version of Laphroaig that offers something a bit different to the rest of the range.
